2. Hosting and server logs

This website runs on a server of Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, in a data centre located in Germany. When a page is requested, the server automatically processes the IP address, the time, the page requested, the browser type and the referrer URL.

Purpose: delivery and security of the website (defence against attacks, error analysis).

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Retention: server logs are deleted after 7 days.

A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Hetzner. No data is transferred to third countries.

3. No cookies, no tracking

This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics tools and stores no personal data of visitors. The theme setting (light/dark) is stored only locally in your browser (localStorage) and is not transmitted. Nothing is stored for the language choice (German/English). Personal data is only processed when you use the contact form or the blog subscription yourself (sections 6 and 7).

4. Fonts

All fonts are served locally by this website. No connection is made to Google Fonts or any other external font service.

5. YouTube videos

Some posts contain videos from YouTube. Nothing is loaded from YouTube when the page opens, not even a preview image. Only after a click on “Play video” is the player from youtube-nocookie.com embedded. From that point on, Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, receives your IP address and can set cookies, including a transfer to the USA (Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework).

Legal basis: your consent given by the click, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You end that consent by reloading the page.

6. Contact form

The form on the contact page lets you send me a message.

Data: name, email address, optionally the company, and the message text.

Purpose: handling your enquiry and any follow-up questions.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in replying), or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where cooperation is being initiated.

Recipients: STRATO AG, Berlin, as the mail provider; Hetzner Online GmbH, Gunzenhausen, Germany, as the host of this website, where server log data is recorded (see section 2).

Nothing stored on the website: the message is delivered by email only. There is no database in which enquiries are kept.

Protection against misuse: the IP address is held in the server’s memory for no longer than 10 minutes in order to limit the number of submissions. It is not written to disk.

Retention: until your enquiry has been dealt with. The message is deleted afterwards, unless statutory retention periods apply.

7. Blog subscription

On the blog page you can subscribe to new posts by email.

Data: email address, chosen language, the time of confirmation and of a later unsubscribe.

Procedure: after you enter your address you receive an email with a confirmation link (double opt-in). Your address is stored only once you click it; the link is valid for 48 hours. Every subscription email contains an unsubscribe link.

Purpose: one notification per new post. No third-party advertising, no open or click tracking.

Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time via the unsubscribe link or by emailing me.

Recipients: STRATO AG, Berlin, as the mail provider; Hetzner Online GmbH, Gunzenhausen, Germany, as the host on whose server the subscriber list is kept.

Protection against misuse: as with the contact form, the IP address is held in the server’s memory for no longer than 10 minutes and is not written to disk.

Retention: until you unsubscribe. The address and the times of subscription and unsubscription are then kept for up to three years as proof of consent (Art. 7(1) GDPR, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); the address is no longer used for sending.

8. Your rights

Under Art. 15 to 21 GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. You can withdraw consent you have given at any time with effect for the future. Please use the email address given above.

You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Alt-Moabit 59-61, 10555 Berlin, datenschutz-berlin.de.

9. Data protection officer

No data protection officer has been appointed, as there is no statutory obligation to do so (Section 38 BDSG).
